Support for the Southern Lebanon Displaced
Australia
We have all watched the senseless destruction of GAZA over the last year. The merciless bombardment has spilled over into Lebanon. More than 1000 have been killed and over a million people have had to flee their homes as their villages are raised by saturated bombing.
I am Travis beard, a film maker and a humanitarian; not by definition of profession, but a humanitarisn ethically. I care about all my fellow humans and when pointless abuse of humans occurs, I dont like to watch from the sidelines. I try to help in any way I can.
I lived in Lebanon for 4 years and in that time, I forged some very strong friendships with Chirstians and Muslims, Lebanese Palestinian and Syrians alike. Last week one of my dear friends KARAM, reached out to me and ask if I could help.
I asked what was needed and he simply said: “Our people are being forced to live on the streets, beaches and parks. The men can look after themselves, but it is the women and children that need our urgent support; nappies, hygenic pads, clothes, blankets, water, food. The basics of survival.”
If we raise more than our modest goal of $1000, then we will just purchanse more of the same items. I am sure they need as much as we can share.
So my ask of you is simple; DONATE WHAT YOU CAN. Any amount is helpful and much appreciate. I can personally guarantee that all donations will go directly to the people in Southern Lebanon and the Bekaa. Displaced people which includes Syrians, Palestinians and Lebanese. KARAM is a close friend and man of honor. I trust him to purchase and deliver what is needed for his fellow citizens.
Thank you
Travis
Greetings to all donors.
Firstly I want to thank you AGAIN for your support of our campaign and all the displaced people in Lebanon. It certainly has been a tumultuous week in the region. First the tenuous ceasefire, which we hope will hold, but we must be realistic that it may not. And secondly the end of the Asaad reign and new government in Syria. Both events have and will shape the plight of the displaced people inside Lebanon, but for now all we can do is wait, watch and adapt as things change.
An update from our operations: Talking to Karam this week, he told me that after the ceasefire announcement, many people have chosen to return to their villages. Many finding their homes in ruins or the village services destroyed. I asked Karam, what percentage of the displaced returned and he said it was hard to calculate, but he estimated 2/3s. So that would mean there are roughly still 300,000 people living on the streets of Beirut.
In light of recent events, he said they are slowing down operations to see what will evolve post ceasefire and change in the Syrian government. So that means they will keep communicating with the displaced and deliver life-essential goods as they are requested. Keep in mind that it is winter in Lebanon now, so sleeping rough on the streets of Beirut will only get harder.
So for the festive season, we will also be taking a short break and we will regroup in Feb 2025, to assess the situation and decide how to proceed. To date we have sent all funds to Karam and his org to distribute to the displaced. We will continue to take donations, but will hold off sending any more funds until the new year.
Again, thank you for your support and if you have not already, can share this campaign within your community that would be amazing.
